Zoology
The zoological collections comprise over 110, 000 specimens of animals representing the higher hierarchy of the animal kingdom. Groups of main interest include the insects, molluscs , reptiles, amphibians and birds. The insect collection is considered the largest of all the groups of the collections and contains special collections such as those of Carlton C. Gowdey, Government entomologist in the 1920s. The oldest insect is a saturnid moth from 1872
