Field Stations

Mason River Protected Area


The NHMJ also manages two field stations located at Mason River, Clarendon and Green Hills, Portland. The Mason River Field Station is a Protected Area under the NRCA Act known for its unique property as an upland bog that contains rare plant species such as the Venus fly trap and it is also a bird sanctuary attracting a number of rare bird species.

Green Hills Field Station

The Green Hills Field Station is located in the hills of Portland that form part of the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park.

Both field stations are attractive areas for research and are used from time to time by research staff as well as local and foreign researchers.
