Education

The Education Department conducts outreach activities aimed at increasing the awareness of various target groups about science-related topics with an emphasis on biodiversity- related issues and other issues related to the Jamaica’s natural environment. Education programmes include both in-house and outreach activities. The department manages the Discovery Room and Exhibition Gallery where Jamaican flora and fauna a displayed for public viewing on a daily basis.

The Gallery is currently under renovation. Other in-house activities undertaken by the Education Department include the setting up of temporary displays and hosting of special events to commemorate days of environmental significance such as World Wetlands Day, Earth Day and Environmental Awareness Week.

Outreach activities include setting up displays for expositions, lectures, presentations, and a host of other activities that may be custom designed upon request. The Department is also involved in summer workshops and provides resources for youth summer programmes including summer workshops and vacation bible schools. Plant and animal specimens, Brochures, articles activity booklets, and posters are utilized by the Department to aid in the dissemination of information on Jamaica’s natural history
