Flowchart: Alternate Process: When is World Environment Day?

World Environment Day is commemorated on June 5 each year. It is one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment.

World Environment Day came about through the United Nations General Assembly (GA) in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

It is a time when we examine the state of our environment and come together as a global community to address this problem.

What are we doing?

Heads of State, Prime Ministers and Ministers of Environment deliver statements and commit themselves to care for the Earth.
Flowchart: Alternate Process: More serious pledges are made which lead to the establishment of permanent governmental structures dealing with environmental management and economic planning.

Theme for 2008

Kick the Habit, clean oxygen towards a low carbon economy is the theme for World Environment Day. National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) spearheaded a day of activities on the lawns of Devon House on June 5. A number of sister agencies and institutions witnessed the event which started at 9:00 am and finished at approximately 3:30 pm.

In an effort to help address this environmental problem, these are some of the questions we should be asking ourselves.
What is your carbon footprint?
What are you doing to reduce your carbon footprint?
