World Population Day |

The Importance of Human Population The world population is the total number of human beings alive on the planet Earth at a given time. For continuity of human species, it’s important for human population to continue to proliferate. Each generation brings a different perspective to the existence to life, but most importantly, they ensure the next generation. However, there are other concerns about overpopulation and the right to populate.
The ‘Right’ to Plan for Children
The world leaders in 1968 proclaimed that individuals have a basic human right to determine freely and responsibly the number and timing of their children. In 2008, forty years later, modern contraception remains out of reach for hundreds of millions of women, men and young people.
When is World Population Day Celebrated?
World Population Day (WPD) is celebrated on July 11 each year and it reaffirms the right of people to plan their families. WPD encourages activities, events and information that will help make this right real, especially for those who often have the hardest time getting the information and services they need to plan their families, such as marginalized populations and young people. These persons are living in impoverished countries.
Why Celebrate WPD?
This year, WPD will be observing its 19th year in existence. This year’s theme “Plan your Future: Plan Your Family" is a chance to build awareness of the importance of family planning to a wide range of development issues, including gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights. When people can plan their families, they can plan their lives. They can plan to beat poverty. They can plan on healthier mothers and children. They can plan to gain equality for women.
