Greater Portmore Branch

The Greater Portmore branch of the Junior Centre, located at the Civic Centre Complex, was officially opened on May 9, 1996. Equipped with a workspace and an amphitheatre, the Junior Centre is a gift of the Matalon family and was built by West Indies Home Contractors (WIHCON). It was dedicated to the memory of Moses Montfiore Matalon, whose vision helped to shape Portmore.

The Centre presently offers classes on Mondays to Thursdays 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., Fridays 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Classes are offered in Speech, Drama, Music, Drumming, Sign Language, Art and Craft, Dance, Guidance and Counselling and Personal Development.  Heritage Fun Studies are conducted on Mondays between the hours of 9:00 -11:00 a.m.

Through its vision various programmes, the Junior Centre has taught thousands of students to draw on their inner resources and has stimulated the development of their talent. It also affords these students the unique opportunity to become exposed to the arts, History and Culture in an educational, but fun-filled manner.
